It took two solid days of driving to get out to Niagara Falls late on Saturday night from Iowa. A brief stop was made in Erie, Pennsylvania to get some photos at sunset the second day. Then, after crossing the Canadian boarder that night, we were treated with a fireworks show before going on to the hotel.
The next morning, I went out to capture the sunrise over the falls. It was a brisk cold with high winds and bitterly low temperatures. I woke up too early to find my spot and set up around 4:30 AM. I walked around the area for an hour before the light started to show up in the sky.
The sun rose around 6:30 AM taking its time to rise above the horizon. I started from further away shooting into the falls with a long lens. I then switched to a wide-angle to capture Niagara Falls up close. Most of the photos were taken from about 5 feet from where the falls drop hundreds of feet. The tripod was perched precariously on the edge of a ledge with very little to keep all my equipment from plunging to its demise.
The sky was very clear unfortunately which made for a plain and dull sky, but the photos turned out nice anyways. At about 7:30 AM we packed up all the camera equipment and trudged up the cliff back to our hotel to catch a bit more sleep before moving on to Toronto.
