Photography is great on its own. I find it easy to go out in the field on my own and capture images because it is time that I can set aside for just myself. While I enjoy these moments of solitude, it is not what photography is all about and there is more to be had with the photography community!

I am part of this boom of the medium over the last several years, and I welcome everyone else to join in on creating landscape images! However, one of the things that can make landscape photography a challenge is the more people creating images and publishing them every day the more it can make us self-conscious about our own work.

I have a day job which means I am not able to go out and do landscape photography whenever I want. The good part of this is that even if I had all of the time in the world, I wouldn’t be able to do landscape photography all of the time because it takes a mindset to be quality photography.

I love the creative process. Any creative process! The idea that art is art because it takes an effort to visualize something and then put it out into the world. It is a mindset to be in where what is important becomes the art and rather than having to come up with things to create around the art creates itself.

If you make it your job or business there is an expectation that you photograph very specific things, and while this is important when you are making an income to make sure you “got the shot”, that isn’t the sole purpose of photography. In your personal work and during your free time you should be very picky about what you choose to make images of.

Read MoreThe cluttered forest has its own benefits because making even the slightest sense of it can create an impact. It also forces you to be very deliberate in where you place the tripod because an inch off or using the wrong focal length can change the compositions significantly!
